Hi guys, I'm sending this short article not only because the election is being such a hot topic -and one with deep implications this time- but also because it brought back some memories from my time in the south of the States and also made me think of how different sometimes things are over here compared to over there.

So, regarding the election, I would like to point out how it's traditional to have it dotted with fun initiatives, no matter how controversial, radical or tense the political debate gets. This is a good thing, I would say, even if this time it's getting nastier than ever. For instance, I think there were no precedents of candidates not shaking hands. Yet, it's a good thing to be able to laught at pretty much everything and to be imaginative in the ways you call attention to your views and ideas.

Personally, the taco wall initiative made me recall the times I drove to taco trucks with university friends, usually quite late at night, when most other food places would be closed. It was delicious every time. It also called to mind a motto that some central and south American friends of mine had, some of them illegal residents. It went like this: "We didn't cross the borders, the borders crossed on us". I guess this was precisely "food for thought".

And finally, this peaceful, fun and attention-grabbing protest made me shudder in discontent when I was forced to compare it to the boycott some speakers suffered a few days ago in a conference at UAM.

  2. In my case, I don´t like Trump and his ideas about immigration. This taco-truck protest is one of the most imaginative protests I ever saw.
I also admire the sense of humour of the protest. One can defend workers´social rights and the dignity of Hispanics with "Everybody dance now".
I agree with you, Jose Luis. comparisons between both countries could be very negative. One of the main reasons, they have a longer democratic tradition than us
