Have your Say! - Second earth

From: Raul Sanchez
Date: Sun, Nov 27, 2016

Have you ever thought on that little red planet above the sky? It seems to be far away from us… But it turns out that probably it will be our next home in the coming future.

Exploring TED webpage, I found out this video, in which it is explained when and how we will arrive in Mars.

Can you imagine yourself diving through the deep space for more than a hundred years just to arrive the planet? It is a risky adventure, since all computations must be extremely accurate, and no error has room in the whole mission. Just a mistake can suppose the difference between success and death. (Luckily, adventures have a glimmer of hope in themselves and can do the work.)
But from the first colony onwards, we can transform all Mars to have a second Earth, with breathable atmosphere, running water and crops!! A second home in which we can live safely and comfortably.

Once we accomplish this quest, what do you think will be our next objective?

  1. Guys, I was trying to watch this and I realized there was a problem with the link to the video.

It actually sent you to like the very last two seconds of the full length, so you only got to listen to some applause. Then it was the ads, then another, different video! But I wanna know about living in Mars! :)))

This is the proper link, and it's also now fixed above:

  2. It is really interesting to know how science advance to the point of making Mars habitable for humans. It is incredible that, only 40 years after the first landing on the Moon, the technology needed for leaving in a totally different plannet as Mars is available. However, it is also sad that we are creating all these systems because we are screwing up the Earth, a planet with already have all we need wihtout wearing special suits for leaving or things like that. We are able to create amazing technology, but we cannot keep out planner, which is something that less advance species as animals are capable of doing.
To end without bad taset, just a funy fact that this future was already predicted by "The Simpsons" (as many other events). In one Halloween episode where the Earth is distroyed and only smart people or celebrities are selected to live in Mars, while the remining ones are sent to the Sun to be destroyed. I wonder if after 2027, we will be also clasified so that only few ones will live and wihch criteria will be applied for that clasification.

  3. Second heart, second body!

After seen this video, I was pushed into watching a few more talks on the topic, and I found this other one to be very interesting too. It goes along the lines of genetic modification that we discussed in class.

It looks all so novel and mind-blowing to me! And I can't wait for the corresponding Simpson's episode either!
